Transfer orders for county convicts, 1927-1951.

This series is created as a means of monitoring the movement of inmates between and the population at the dept.'s facilities. This series consists of carbon copies of transfer orders from the dept. director authorizing a prison warden or county sheriff to transfer the inmate(s) listed on the order. Listed on each order are the inmate's name, crime, date of conviction, sentence, race, sex, fines, costs, and transfer destination. Later volumes include inmate serial number, county, and any remarks. An entry marked "Received in prison" lists the date and name of the particular prison that received the convict. This evolved into entries listing dates "arrived" and "left". This series includes records created by the State Board of Administration (9/1923-1939), and the Dept. of Corrections and Institutions (1939-1953).
